Welcome Back Panthers and new Panthers!
We have started this year off with a bang. School is just humming with happy and positive academic activities. By now many of you already know that we hit a new high last year on our state STAR test scores. We broke 700 on our API, 707 to be exact, and are on our way to the state's goal of 800! We have gained almost 100 points over the past 3 years and our goal this year is to hit that 800 mark! Nothing is impossible with the great group of students, staff and parents at Brewer.
We have continued to implement the changes we began 3 years ago to improve our school. We now have two dedicated families in each grade level that share all their students in a 'small learning community'. Each student has an advisory group and a teacher advisor who helps monitor progress and makes the school home connection personal for their advisees. By now you should have heard from them and know who they are. If not, you will meet them at Back To School Night and exchange contact information with them.
We have lots of new electives and after school offerings too this year! Our school is now wired for cable and there is a "Brewer TV" channel and after school club. We will be broadcasting a student created television 'bulletin/show' every Friday during the Advisory period.
Remember, Brewer is only as strong as the community that supports us! Come to our first workday of the year on September 23rd, get your car washed this Friday at our first 8th grade carwash, or come to the first School Site Council Meeting at 6:00 pm Sept 19th, or the PTSA Board Meeting (everyone welcome) at 6:30 pm. If none of that is possible, that's OK, just ask your child how their day was, limit television time and check their homework. You are your child's first teacher, what you do matters most! I hope to meet or see you all again at Back To School Night, Wednesday, September 20th!
