Why does the PTSA fundraise?
Given that we are in the middle of the biggest active PTSA fundraiser of the year (the cookie dough sale), the yard sale is almost upon us, and the weekly Saturday car washes are over, it seems like a good time to ask the question: "Why does the PTSA fundraise?" The answer: The PTSA fundraises to support the school, the students and the teachers. Fundraising is NOT the primary activity of the PTSA; rather, it is a necessary and incidental activity. We are trying to find activities that are FUN, LOW KEY, and COMMUNITY-BUILDING -- that's why we sponsored the grade-level car washes and we are planning a number of restaurant nights throughout the year (such as the Compadres nights in September and the upcoming California Pizza Kitchen nights this month). So, what are SOME of the things the PTSA does with the funds?
(1) 5 tutors for Homework Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays
(2) partial funding for after-school programs
(3) tools, materials and supplies for facilities upkeep -- e.g., plants, door handles, latches, paint, etc.
(4) food, drink and other materials for school work days
(5) half the cost of the new Panther mural overlooking the playground
(6) communications -- e.g., biweekly newsletter, e-mail service, the calling post phone message service
(7) teacher support -- e.g., school supply gift cards for each teacher, teacher appreciation breakfasts
(8) student incentives --e.g. monthly Panther Pride student events
(9) AND MORE!
