What do students think about school?

What do students think about school? I did an interview with 5 Edna Brewer Panthers to find out their opinions about school: two 6th graders, two 7th graders, and one 8th grader. I did these interviews during school and asked some other people these questions at home. This is important because I wanted to see who really cared about their education.

Question #1- What’s your opinion about school?

Question #2- What’s your favorite thing about school?

Question #3- Do you think school is an important aspect in your life?

Xiaodi L. a 6th grader, has her own opinion about school. She said, “School’s okay but there’s a little bit too much homework and too much projects. There’s not enough time for us just to take a break.” She has her own favorite thing about school, which can be different than other people. She says, “P.E , we get to move around and talk. We get exercise.” Does she think school’s important? Well she says, “Yes, because we need to learn and fill up our brain. It will affect our future by what we learn in school.”

Eva N., a 6th grader, likes school. She quotes, "It’s cool because it has awesome people there.” What is the favorite thing a 6th grader likes?  She has her own opinion that was different than interviewee #1, Xiaodi.  She says,“My favorite thing about school is music.”  Does she think school’s important? “Yes, because school teaches us stuff we need to know later on in life.”

Theresa H., a 7th grader has a thoughtful saying about school. She said, “I think school is a life’s opportunity to succeed in life and if you tend to enjoy your times at school learning, it will be much easier. Also some people can’t go to school but the ones who are, are lucky to go and will succeed in whatever job they might want.” Her favorite thing about school?  She says, “I’d have to say that being able to see my friends is my favorite thing about school, but I also like to do projects and participate in school events.”  Like in the other interviews she also says school’s important. She said, “Yes, like I said at first, I think school is very important because it can help you succeed in life. And even if people may “dislike” school they can tend to like it by having fun while learning”.

Lillian C., a 7th grader, states different opinions about school. She quotes "I think that it's cool but we need to clean bathrooms and get some better things.” She has different answers then other people about what she likes about school.  She said, “I like Brewer T.V. and the artwork students make, the nice classrooms and friends.” Is school important?  This 7th grader also says, “Yes, because you will get an education, which will help you prepare for your future."

The only 8th grader I interviewed was Jenny Y. What does she think about school? She says "It’s okay, I guess.” Favorite thing about school to an 8th grader?  She said, “Getting to be with my friends and meeting new people."  This Edna Brewer student also think school’s an important aspect in life.  She notes, “Yes, because at school I learn new different and interesting things I need to know when I grow up”

In conclusion, these Edna Brewer students have their own opinions about school and how it will help them succeed in life. Everyone said school is an important aspect in their life.  Most students said that they liked school or it was OK.  No one said they hated or disliked school.

I think students really care about their education even though they don’t show it.  So do your best in school because it will help you later on in your life. If you don't take your education seriously and mess around, you will regret it. And try to make your time here fun so it won’t seem so tough or boring.
