Darwin and Dina's Newborns

                            Darwin and Dina’s Newborns

In Mr. Jenkins 7th grade science class, there are three pets. While everyone was gone on their vacations on winter break, two geckos named Darwin and Dina did something. They had babies while everyone was gone. They are under the log in the front. Mr. Jenkins said that they just did it when everyone was gone.

I interviewed some students from Mr. Jenkins class about what they thought about it.

These are some of the questions I asked the students:

1. How do you feel about having more pets in the class?

2. What do you think their names should be?

3. What do you think you can do to help them hatch?

4. Do you think that they are boys or girls or both?

5. Why do you think that they decided to have babies?

Sam, a 7th grader from Mr. Jenkins science class said, “I really don’t care about the pets so I don’t really care.” That is not what Tori another 7th grader had to say about this, “I think having more pets in class would be cool.” Spencer stated the same thing, “I think having more pets is good. I also asked them about what their names should be. Tori said, “I don’t really care.” Sam said something similar to this, “ I don’t know what to name them.” Spencer thought differently than the other two students, he already had names for them. “I think they should be Dino, Dexter, or David if it is a boy. For a girl I think it should be Dinky, I don’t really have names for girls.”

I also asked them about what they think they could do to help them hatch. Sam said, “I can help them by keeping them warm or pretty much nothing.” Tori said, “ I don’t know what to do.” Spencer said, “ I can do nothing to help them hatch.” I also asked them what they thought about them being boys or girls or one of each. Here is what Sam had to say, “I think they are both boys and girls.” Tori and Spencer stated the same thing too.

The last question I asked them was why they thought that Darwin and D'NA had babies. Here is what Sam had to say, “I think they decided to have babies because we weren’t here.” Tori stated something very similar, “ I think they had babies because we were away for 2 weeks.” Spencer said something else, “I think they had babies because they are mating pairs and that’s the way of nature.” That last sentence made me laugh.

Darwin and Dina’s newborns have made different people feel different ways. That is why everyone had his or her own opinions about the newborns.
